I heard something about a rogue employee selling a studio to a wealthy scammer for a dollar (and a massive kickback). Does that describe disco elysium’s situation?
According to Kurvitz (game designer and writer of the prequel novel Sacred and Terrible Air) and Rostov (lead artist):
- Kompus (Zaum Studio CEO) bought a majority share in Zaum
- Kompus bought four early sketches from Zaum for 1 GBP
- Kompus sold back those sketches to Zaum for 4.8 million EUR
- When they began raising questions, Kurvitz and Rostov were demoted and later fired
The story has A LOT more than four bullet points.
Of course there's a lot more. I specifically condensed the story down to bullet points relevant to the "$1 purchase" mentioned in the parent comment.
