According to Caleb Williams, the main character we are following will first appear as a homeless young girl accompanied by a large feline animal guide, and will miss her left leg. This he has apparently verified. TheAvatarist also confirms that the main character will be a girl with a peg leg and she has a big cat-like animal companion. He says that she seems to be an outcast of society, with no one considering her to be the Avatar. Instead, according to TheAvatarist, her twin has been identified as the Avatar and raised separated from a young age.
According to TheAvatarist (and treated as a rumour by Caleb Williams), the story seems set in a post-apocalyptic world (based on seeing two episode animatics). TheAvatarist says he hears the "seven havens" are the cities where the remaining people live and outside them is post apocalyptic.
According to TheAvatarist, the people in general seem to hold Korra responsible for the apocalyptic event and therefore hate the current Avatar, which is why the main character's twin has been taken into hiding by the White Lotus.
That's certainly is an interesting direction. Being post-apocalypse could help bring us back into "fantacy" territory, especially for future Avatars.
Although it's shitty for the white lotus to take 1 twin, but leave the other limping around on the streets.
Finally, the hardest thing for me to believe is that Jinora didn't deus ex machina prevent the apocalypse?
Minor Kyoshi chapter 1 spoiler.
It also gives Kyoshi misidentification vibes. We already did that guys, let's do something else. Cut the misidentification part, and have no one out there looking. Maybe instead, at some point this kid finds out by mistake she the Avatar and now her and her twin have to keep the secret while accidentally doing avatar things (I.e helping people and getting into trouble).
I agree btw that if they really go into that direction it will have the same effect as the "Aang was a bad father" thing in Korra: people will hate the White Lotus, Korra and all kinds of other people that could be blamed for that apocalyptic event.
Evidently the creators don't shy away from such controversies, but still... why do that?
