Hi guys I recently stumbled upon this website where you can get a eu.org sub domain (example.eu.org for instance).
I noticed though that domains aren't created instantly. I'm curious if there is human review to get domians processed and if it generally takes a long time to make domains using them.
It's just one person managing eu.org and at some point they seem to have been overwhelmed by all the requests and have either stopped approving them or taking very long to get to them.
If you need a cheap domain there are other TLD you can get that function normally. .eu.org is not a regular TLD, it's just subdomains offered by the owner of that domain.
I do own a cheap numerical xyz domain (something like 432433.xyz) cost a dollar per year. Only reason I was curious about eu.org is its very short and ends with .org.
I haven't really bought a proper .com domain since I'm just using them for side hobby projects (not for sharing with other people).
Not that you asked, but you can get a .eu domain for ~9€/year (assuming you live in the EU). It's obviously more than 1USD, but I still have few for around my hobbies as it's not that big of an expense.
.eu has custom rules for whois. You're not allowed to use privacy/proxy services for anything other than the mandatory publicly shown email field, but for domains registered by an individual, that email field and the user's preferred language are the only things displayed. They've had those rules even prior to GDPR.
