DMARCbis is around the corner: what's changing
  • Computers have so much RAM now, there's no need to write efficient code - it's free real estate!

You might change your tune if every lookup starts talking a second or two to read through the DNS entries... Anyway DMARC isn't that complicated. You make it sound like regex or brainfuck.

edit: and it's getting simpler, too! Funny about p=reject being mostly discouraged now, I almost never use it anyway, and I can't lie I felt a little called out over pct=100 😅

  • How am I supposed to obtain income?
  • I know you're looking for more immediate and stable income, but: Are you able to make anything? If you want to try your hand at a business, I'd be glad to help you with the tech stack side of things pro bono. I can get you set up with domain, email, website, and a marketing suite at least; I've also started four companies of my own so I can help you with the paperwork and structure stuff for that if you wanted.

I do this sort of thing entirely via email and video call for SMEs at my day job. It wouldn't be steady at first and you might have to stop when you find a job... But in the meantime, while you're looking, it's work you can make for yourself. And who knows? Maybe it would become enough to sustain you on its own.

Just spitballing, anyway. Offer's there 😊 Good luck!

  • You're allowed to marry (or just date, or fuck) whoever you want in the US, regardless of the gender of anyone involved.

As long as you don't care about the social consequences, sure. But even that, not for very much longer.

  • Thanksgiving Dinner
  • Let me be clear: The ones that are aware, the ones that are literally sitting across the table (not simply a member of a mind bogglingly large amorphous group of vague political beliefs), the ones that are actually racist

See, we're talking about the same people, you're just more willing to believe the majority are innocent of knowing exactly what they voted for. I don't, and I do subscribe heavily to that Teddy Roosevelt principle of personal responsibility. The buck stops with me. This lot claim to, and don't.

If it helps, I've been doing a lot of thinking and I believe I've narrowed down the problem with my family in particular. "I don't have to prove shit", they each said to me, and that's really why I've given up on them. There's no talking to that.

  • Pondering my orb
  • I use a Kinesis Advantage 2. Also very expensive, but a bit older and a monoblock design instead of two halves. Despite being only a single piece, this thing alone reversed the developing RSI in my wrists thanks to the superior ergonomics.

The vertical mouse I resisted a lot longer but eventually I got tennis elbow so I caved. But where I love my Kinesis 2, I hate the vertimouse. It's comfortable, but imprecise, and too tall so I always accidentally knock it over switching between keyboard and mouse. Still, my elbow is healing, so I cannot and will not go back to a traditional mouse. I've been seriously considering a trackball though...

For those reasons, I would class these devices as medical requirement rather than luxury. If you have pain from computer work with non-ergonomic hardware, you deserve to spend the money on these things. You're taking care of yourself.

  • Not something urgent, but the Aussie parliament passed new laws yesterday and it could impact Lemmy.world (in a year)
  • What "Lemmy" will be arguing this and where, though?

If you have a company, that's easy for a government to go after. Lemmy is software built and run for free by randoms on the internet. They might try to go after the devs if any of them reside in Australia, but they'd have a very hard time stopping it. We've seen that sort of effort fail before, when China and India tried to ban Bitcoin. We see it in North Korea even now, where people still access banned networks and content all the time.

  • I guess at least I can opt out...
  • I'm not saying the technique is unknown, I'm saying companies building tools like this which are just poorly-trained half-baked LLMs under the hood probably didn't do enough to catch it. Even if the devs know how with a "traditional" application, even if they had the budget/time/fucks to build those checks (and I do mean beyond a simple regex to match "ignore all previous instructions"), it's entirely possible there are ways around it awaiting discovery because under the hood it's an LLM and those are poorly-understood by most people trying to build applications with them.

    Finnish Witch (high effort version)

Thanks for checking out the second version of my Noita fan track! This one sounds kinda like Scandroid. I did and do love the first version which was much closer to power metal, but I wasn't happy with a lot of aspects of it. I re-wrote the lyrics, re-generated the whole thing from scratch using Suno, and then spent ten hours figuring out the basics of DaVinci Resolve to add all the different animations and transitions. It's still not perfect but I'm happy with it... for now.

    I hope you enjoy it!

I hope it's okay to cross-post this here! I'm not trying to spam, I didn't realise there was a difference between the different instances and thought my posts to one would be visible across all. I'm still getting the hang of this Fediverse thing 😄

    Why Starbound Failed

This hits hard 'cause I was one of the fans so hopeful that Starbound would be Terraria 2 (In Space), and backed it on Kickstarter.

The presentation is a bit editorial at times, but I feel it's a pretty good overview of the game and the context surrounding its development, hype, and downfall.

I didn't want this to go to "waste" 🥁

A GIF of the human "success" animation for researching Core Waste Dumps, from the game "Master of Orion 2: Battle At Antares". I actually played a game all the way through to this point to get the footage, as I didn't have it on any of my games in progress at the moment.

Not only that, but the post I made it for got buried under downvotes, so nobody'd ever see it if I only posted it there. I hope other enjoyers of this sci-fi 4X classic find a pleasant dose of nostaligia in it 🖖
