To simplify, assume the cow is spherical
  • Not entirely. You get a lot of air resistance from vortex shredding which pulls the object back because of turbulent air flow at high speeds behind the object. You also have collision with air molecules when they are compressed in front of the object.

Friction on the other hand is more dominant when pushing an object along a surface.

  • How much do you blame the people who voted for Trump or other fascists?
  • I blame capitalism for this one. Misinformation and lobbying is very profitable. Using prior knowledge of what laws are coming into effect is also very profitable. Retiring and becoming a lobbyists is also.

In the US hard facts have become debatable and there's a shitty system that massively benefits two political parties.

I don't necessarily blame the people since the system is rigged against people's interest. They get mad and vote anti-establishment which is still very much the establishment.

  • PC Games Are Outselling Console Games, According to New Industry Report
  • Just want to second that. When you have predictable hardware you can do some extremely precise optimizations, timings and scheduling so you know that when a situation comes up it'll be handled and executed the exact same way. On top of that the game will always be preconfigured so that it handles almost all situations at 60fps.

It can eek out some performance even though generally having more powerful hardware always wins.

  • Eald Englisċ riht
  • I speak both, there is plenty of vocabulary differences but the sentence structure is almost identical and most germanic vocab is shared. Dutch has a lot of Latin vocab which is non-existent in Icelandic (introductie for example).

Icelandic also comes with a grammar DLC with declined nouns and 3 genders that also apply to definite articles that are suffixes instead of standalone words.

"Ég hef ekki gert neitt" Is translated as "Ik heb niets gedaan"

"Hann kann að tala eins og faðir minn" Is "Hij weet hoe to spreken zoals m'n vader."

But then you get "Stjórnmálamenn eru krabbamein samfélagsins" which is harder. Stjórn-mála-menn is rooted in "Steering", mál has the same root as "meal" but here means a case such as legal case "mealtime" in Icelandic has it's counterpart "máltíð". Menn is English "men". Eru is same as "are". Krabba-mein is "crab" and "mean" which means cancer. Sam-félag is Dutch "samen" and English "fellowship" which means society.

It's weird how pretty much every word can be separated into pieces and looked up to see where the shared between other germanic languages. The usage has obviously changed a lot in the last 1500 years but the connection is still there. :)

I'm autistic btw, this is one of my special interests, sorry if it's too long.

Sorry for bad Dutch spelling, I never learned to spell Dutch.

  • What's your favorite unbelievable fact?
  • Bacteria technically live in the tube of "outside" on your inside. Digestive system is just one hole all the way through the body that your body interacts with just like the air in the lungs.

  • Got any must-play games for strategy fans?
  • Medieval 2 Total War. It's the best Total War game and one of the oldest. It has a basic campaign map where you create and manage armies which you then use to go into a real time battle with thousands of units. There is nothing as satisfying as routing the enemy with a massive cavalry charge into the rear when they're in hand to hand infantry combat.

  • SpaceX’s Starship breaks up mid-flight, forcing airlines to avoid debris
  • The booster landed intact with all engines firing until they were turned off. The top half experienced issues where there was gas accumulation in the thruster area.

This is the first time they got two landings of the booster in a row so that's a win for them. I despise Elon but SpaceX has put space back on the menu and I love them for it.

  • Steam has the best UI
  • There's the other side of maintenence that you don't have to worry about messing other parts up if you change that one drop down menu since it's the only place it's used. It sometimes takes less time to do it this way.

I still think that the dropdowns should be unified, one view for desktop and one for mobile.

  • What is hexbear?
  • For some reason they are more pro Russian suppression state, Chinese one-party censorship state and even apologise for DPRK. It's pretty tall order to call any of those democratic. Then from my discussion with tankies they often advocate for an armed revolution which are very undemocratic in their nature and often lead to one-party states or a military junta government.

Marxist-Leninism is a democratic ideology but the way tankies talk doesn't sound very democratic to me.

  • The economy could really use a state run video library online where it's mandatory for all movies and shows are sold for pay-per-view for media preservation and access.

Werewolf/mafia games, is anyone here able to win them?

I consistently lose and always fail the vibe checks. I have given up on trying to win and now I sow chaos for fun when people insist on playing them.

It's a fun trick to enjoy the game even if winning is off the table.

    Sleeping tricks

I'm looking for sleeping tricks and thought some other people here might have similar issues or good tricks. Can be anything from getting the motivation to go to sleep to actually tricks to falling asleep.

My current trickbook is basically this:

Podcasts, but it has to be in some goldilocks zone of interesting to enough to keep attention but not too good so it gets exciting.

I've also done meditation in bed when falling asleep that tends to work.

Consistent routine is good. Shower, brush teeth, lights off, episode, sleep.

I'm curious to see what other autistic people are working with here.

    Chrono Trigger (SNES 1995)

I'm born in 1992 so this game is a bit before my time. I started playing it and got completely hooked. It's an absolutely fantastic game that would still hold up as a quality indie game today.

Music is amazing. Characters and character development is amazing. Story is very good. Combat is genuinely fun instead of feeling like a chore that cuts you off from the game. Art style is amazing.

I was surprised how much quality they could fit onto the SNES back it the day, it's a really good game and everyone with a potato can ploy it.

Pro tip: Remasters have some UI unpleasantness so it's best to stick to SNES emu version. I tried the Android and they used some native android font that ruined the immersion a bit. There's also a tight running section that's particularly unsuited for the mobile version. SNES is best, as originally intended.

Help wanted: Girlfriend said she was feeling Khorne-y

So I of course screamed BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD and SKULLS FOR THE SKULL THRONE like any reasonable human being. Then maimed some people with a knife, drank their blood etc.

She won't talk to me now and I don't understand why. Do you guys think the knife was to small?

    Any help very much appreciated.

Activities destroyed when swapping apps HyperOS

Does anybody else experience that Android activities get destroyed and rebuilt all the time when switching between apps?

Browser page gets reloaded and form values disappear.

Authorising a payment in different app can make the payment fail.

General bad experience when multitasking 3 apps and swapping between.

(I'm on Redmi Note 12 with HyperOS)

Who of you guys are on an "Unknown" OS?

Useragent Detect | StatCounter Global Stats

I've been wondering how many Linux users are being listed as unknown by statcounter out of curiosity. There has been a big global bump "Unknown".

Obvious ones are UserAgent spoofers Vpn users but I feel like that's pretty niche. I'm wondering if SteamOS, Endeavour and BSD show up as Unknown. Furthermore, will just all non-Ubuntu based OS?

Distro for a local "cloud gaming" no monitor desktop

I'm looking for a specific distro to handle some tasks.

I got a second hand rig with Nvidia GTX 1050 that I want to use as a home server. I wanted to use HoloISO but it doesn't support nvidia. If someone says "do it anyway, it's fine" I'll install it though.

The idea is to support a Jellyfin server and Steam Link gaming but steam is not big on Nvidia so it's hard to narrow down "black screen" issues etc. I'm also planning to manage it via VNC and SSH.

I'm familiar with Ubuntu based systems since I develop software on Ubuntu based KDE distro but never had a graphics card.

    So it boils down to:

    • Ease of setup including nvidia drivers
    • Ease of update via command line (I'm not going to download nvidia drivers from their website to update proprietary drivers)
    • Graphics performance
    • Prefer Ubuntu based

I'm up for Gnome, Xface, Cinnamon, KDE or whatever DE.

Edit: Changed title to better reflect requirements and not have misleading "headless" and "server" in it

The setup and instructions helped a lot with setting up. My library is small and local now but the future is bright. Thank you all for writing info answers and docs.

Special thanks for all the devs of Sonarr, Radarr, Prowlarr, Torrent clients and nzb360.

Extra special thanks to the devs at Jellyfin. Honestly this whole set blew my mind.
