I’m in my 40s. I’ve had phones since the 90s. Only sideways by default ones I recall are some Moto and Sidekick or similar. And they weren’t really close to today’s video capability.
What phone are you referring to that is sideways by default??
Holding the phone sideways by default? I’ve never seen anyone do that. My phone doesn’t even work like that.
The article says that Amazon has a recycling program and has provided free assistance and home pickup for these as part of the sunsetting.

When the video requires a wide view, yeah that makes sense. But only when required. Shouldn’t be the default since holding the phone that way isn’t the default. Simply makes sense.
To protect yourself and others from crazies. Because crazies can and will use anything and everything as a weapon.
There is nothing wrong with running around swinging knives simply because you want to. That’s just freedom, and it’s ok.
I don't have anything to defend myself
So instead of arming yourself, you’re trying to disarm the rest of the world? Why take that difficult path instead of the easy way?
Ok friend. I was being cute. Today is our Independence Day so I made that last sentence.
I’m a recovered alcoholic with 11 years sober next month. I’ve lived on the streets before. Slept in gutters. I spend a lot of time working with the homeless and addiction community now. That’s my biggest fight.
That said, yes, I’ll defend a mall ninjas right to carry painted toothpicks or katanas all the same.
You're not supposed to run around with broomsticks if you're not doing any actual sweeping, either. Or hang out in a dim underpass with baseball bats unless you're an actual baseball player and are waiting for the train to your game or something.
Wow. Yeah glad we don’t have that ridiculousness in the USA. I’ll spend the day celebrating revolting against that tyrannical attitude.
Can’t pretty much everything around you cause serious harm or kill??? I don’t understand this stance.
When everyone watches your content on a vertical screen, it simply makes sense.
There was a time period before the modernization of video sharing apps when vertical video was annoying because it was primarily consumed on a PC. But that changed years ago.
The only people still making the vertical video arguments haven’t reevaluated their stance in a decade, or don’t get out of the house much.
Why would they not allow an mvno? Odd.
Mine is $6/mo unlimited since I was on the beta for Helium. It’s $20/mo now.
You should really check out an MVNO if you can afford to pay off your phone. You’ll save a LOT. I personally use Helium Mobile (uses Tmo and consumer decentralized network) but there are MVNOs that use AT&T if you prefer their coverage.
The major carriers overcharge for service since they lock people in with 0% financing.
I’m extremely close at this point.
Oh I was good using x-modem on wwiv bbs’s at 1200bps too
TerraUSD was an algorithmic stable, not backed by any real USD. No one with a brain expected that mechanic to work. That was a ponzi, but an interesting experiment.
USDC is a memecoin? It’s $1, on a decentralized ledger. Backed by $1 in the legacy banking system. I can move 1 USDC to $1 in the legacy system nearly instantly by redemption at Circle. No different than a legacy to legacy bank wire.
I’m not grifting - I’m attempting to make you aware that there are decentralized markets denominated in US dollars. What I’m explaining is not a pyramid scheme - I’m just informing you that there is a very widely used token on decentralized ledgers which represents exactly $1.
It depends on how you look at these things. Traditional, fat-client POP3 email was not syncing, it was just downloading from the server. In such a case, I would not expect it to be syncing.
In this particular case, I wouldn’t expect a sync at all. These are messages received on, and managed on, distinct devices.
That said, I did get a MacBook last month and have learned that these things synchronize. Which is cool but I didn’t expect that. Still wouldn’t expect it on deletes.
How do I subscribe to a community on another instance
I've browsed that "all" page in communities and I can subscribe from there, but what about when I land on a specific federated community page such as https://lemmy.zip/c/[email protected] ? It has no "Subscribe" button
