We'll be that is a new point of view I don't think I've heard of before, or at least not in that level of detail and explanation.
Thank you!
In terms of discussion, I guess it boils down to the ends justifying the means, or all that matters are results.
It also explains much of Musk's recent behavior. If you can suck up to an idiot and in return get free reign on anything you do, screw whatever supposed values you used to have. I suppose I do wonder where the dividing point was. Why "suck up" to liberals for so many years and then just flip. The "why" is more clearly understood, but what was the inciting incident.
Re Google Safe Browsing
I would argue it's a security feature with potential privacy concerns, however I would agree it is more of a failsafe or suggestion.
However it being disabled by default or not included at compile time versus enabled by default may also be relevant when it comes to security. As a hypothetical a high severity bug with Google Safe Browsing could arguably make a browser less secure. However even as a failsafe/suggestion, the small security benefit may make the overall browser more secure, e.g. filtering known bad websites that attack known vulnerabilities.
I'm also just using Safe Browsing as an example here, it may or may not be worth focusing on since a browser is basically an operating system.
You mentioned sandboxing, which I think is perhaps a more reasonable scope.
"I’m not there to play someone’s wife.”
Gabrielle isn't just "someone", but I understand her meaning.
- Do you have your current list of sources? You mentioned you want more, but where are you looking to start? For example are you looking at the CVE database? Are you looking at competitions like Pwn2Own? Or detailed project group like Google Project Zero?
- Is it fair to compare Chromium, which is not an end user product, to Firefox which is? Do you plan to look at or compare forks of the software? As an example both Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox enable "Google Safe Browsing" by default, however the fork "ungoogled-chromium" does not include "Google Safe Browsing" (and they provide their reasoning).
Paywall. Non-paywall link or summary?
Exactly, the government is currently only temporarily funded until Dec 20. This is a nice juicy chunk of funding they can use to claim all sorts of bullshit.
engagement optimization
It's sorta funny because this article's title is pure clickbait.
"I’m Running Out of Ways to Explain How Bad This Is"
It tells you nothing, but it gives you a sense of urgency. What is so bad you can't explain it? I need to know.
The secondary subtitle is slightly better but still baity.
"What’s happening in America today is something darker than a misinformation crisis."
At least now I know it's about misinformation, but what about it?
This isn't blaming the OP, but if the root cause is engagement optimization, this article is also at fault.
It's less strange the more I think about it. I guess I've always thought of chicken stock as an ingredient and not a thing you can just have, but I guess it is just sorta soup.
When you say "served with chicken stock" do you mean that's what's in the mug? Is this a dippin' situation or do people drink straight stock?
Obviously? https://youtu.be/qwoWo4ChYuQ (jump to 0:50 if you don't want to wait.)
I've never ridden a tank while playing guitar before. The only other place you get that is Mad Max, but in Doctor Who you're a lot less likely to die.
I think part of it is only being tuned into the services you have.
I have Hulu and there are a number of reoccurring or old shows on Hulu that I watch. As a result I'm usually aware of what Hulu is offering, even if it's only once a show returns.
I also have HBO, but I watch a lot less on HBO, so HBO only has a chance about once a week to get my attention.
I don't have Netflix, so I have no idea what's going on over there.
This actually burned me once since, while watching Doom Patrol on HBO, I was looking up information/news about the show and discovered that a spin-off type show called Dead Boy Detectives was coming out soon. What I didn't see is that it was moving to Netflix, and not HBO. Naturally I forgot about it and HBO never advertised it (not their show), so what did I see as a headline a few months ago? It had been cancelled.
I think as Netflix has gained a cancellation reputation, they're finding people are leaving and not coming back. I know they're trying to improve this, but it's going to take a lot of effort.

However, that excitement soon faded. "HR said they wanted fresh ideas from young people, but that was not really happening," he says.
His marketing manager, 13 years his senior, often found his content unclear or unconventional.
In the first two weeks, each 300-word post required over five rounds of revisions. Eventually, all his original ideas ended up being altered.
Hire someone for a creative job. Committee the creativity to death. Wonder why employee is unhappy.
I'm not saying you have to give your employee free reign but you hired someone and then ignored them, maybe the company is wrong.
This stood out for me during the VP debate when Vance said,
in the state of Ohio, we had a referendum in 2023, and the people of Ohio voted overwhelmingly, by the way, against my position. And I think that what I learned from that, Norah, is that we've got to do a better job at winning back people's trust.
That's an insane statement.
What Vance should have learned from that is that he has a position that an OVERWHELMING number of people disagree with.
It's a show about Sheldon's older brother and his first (in universe know to be failed) marriage.
I didn't watch Young Sheldon, so I'm not sure if his brother and his wife can maintain a show. On the one hand it sounds pretty generic, so really if the studio was going to greenlight a generic sitcom anyway, why not use characters some of your audience already knows. Maybe we get something like Frasier.
On the other hand, it sounds generic. Maybe we get something like Joey.
Jokes on the witch, I brought my own finger-licking good taters with me into the cauldron. I keep them in pack 'round my waist.
Plus she's boiling me frog style, so it's going to take a while for me to notice.
Not quite, Homer is actually and properly underwater in this scene.
That's pretty good for a baby, correct!
It wouldn't make sense.
First off Big Bang Theory only ended in 2019, ~5 years ago. Second, Young Sheldon just ended earlier this year in 2024. Third, as a franchise a spinoff of Young Sheldon starts later this month. So canonically the universe still exists and is being written.
Fourth, if you're going to do a reboot it wouldn't actually include Jim Parsons, the closest option would be a "How I Met Your Father" style spin off (same universe as "How I Met Your Mother"), which would probably just be a cameo.
But also, most of the Big Bang Theory actors are busy at the moment, give them a few years and I'm sure they'll be up for something small.
