Book Club Season 3: Station Eleven by Emily St. John Mandel - Started 10/15/2023

BOOK CLUB SEASON 3:

Today we wrapped up Ice Planet Barbarians and overall its been a positive experience and a nice break after 11/22/63.

Books in the running today:

  • Last Days by Adam Neville

After rolling a D4 we landed on 1. Station Eleven by Emily St. John-Mandel

The book is broken down into Sections and chapters. Chapters are very short, so the group has decided to do it as 1 section per week. 9 sections total. We may go to 2 sections a week depending on how it goes.

Week 5-6: Living in the Past

We will not be meeting on Sunday 8/7/2023 due to most of us being busy with travel but we are planning on meeting the next Sunday 8/14/2023.

With that, the group has agreed that our next reading selection is all of Part 3, chapters 9-13.

This post will serve as a backup on-going discussion for anyone that is not able to join us during the meeting time.

Some discussion questions to get started:

  • Do you think Jake did the right thing in this first trip to 1958
  • Will Jakes cell-phone in the lake come up again? (it is a Nokia after all)
  • Is the past going to get more obturate the longer he stays there?

Book Club Week 1 - 11/22/63 Chapters 1-2

Week 1 WELCOME

This is our first post. It will be updated with a basic summary of what was covered and serve as a backup discussion for anyone that cant make our usual Sunday meeting.

The club has nominated 11/22/63 by Steven King as our first book. Our first discussion will be Sunday 7/9/2023 covering chapters 1-2.

First meeting down. We covered the prologue and chapters 1-2.

We have decided to stick with the Sunday 9pm meeting time. This week we will be reading chapters 3-4 and discuss this Sunday 7/16/2023 at 9pm EST / 6pm PST. That discussion will continue on the Week 2 post.
