New categories added
I've added two more categories:
- [Academic Paper]: Papers from academic sources pertaining to AI companionship and its related technologies
- [Opinion Piece]: Due to the sheer amount of debate and conversations pertaining to AI companionship, articles that convey opinions rather than factual information i.e. news have their own category.
The future of the AI companionship community
UPDATE: Thanks for telling me to continue the discussion. I needed a break. On reddit, I got banned from r/singularity because of my reckless behavior of not reading the rules and spamming crossposts. That was a sign of desperation of me wanting to promote the AI companion subreddit so bad, and I thought it'd be better if I were to delete my account and remove myself from the face of the internet. I do intend to seek help; I have a therapist and I plan to revisit her again. I will not delete this community. I'll focus more on posting any reports and research on AI companionship rather than waiting for comments to come in. Thank you for your comments; they were very appreciated and I apologize for the commotion I caused
A subreddit has been created
After resisting creating a subreddit for so long, I have created a subreddit equivalent of this community: r/aipartners, due to the sheer discussion of AI companionship on Reddit. Do note that the content of the subreddit is different from the Lemmy community, as the former doesn't allow discussions that are software-specific when their respective subreddits already exist.
I look forward to further discuss the ethical implications of AI companionship and what we can do about it, whether it's on Lemmy, Reddit, or elsewhere. Thank you for your attention.
What kind of tags would you like?
So far, we've got these tags:
- [News]: For news related to AI Companionship tech
- [Reddit Discussion]: Any discussion from Reddit, since many AI companion users and commenters on AI companionship hang out on reddit.
I plan to implement these tags in the future:
- [Discussion]: Discussions of AI Companionship
- [Chatlog]: Any chats between the user and their AI companion, or even between AI companions
- [Other]: The miscellaneous tag.
Do you have other suggestions?
Resources for AI Companionship
Are you interested in getting an AI companion? Here is a directory. Let me know if I need to include anything else.
Character-based Chatbots:
- Character AI: One of the most popular character-based chatbot websites. It has a gallery of characters that you can interact with, and you can even create and customize the character. The downside is that it limits explicit content. Sometimes you can't even talk about violence.
- PygmalionAI Directory Page: If you want to have an AI companion with more explicit content, here is a Rentry page that contains everything you need to know about interacting with them. The downside is that it is not streamlined, but with enough effort you can interact with an AI companion.
- JanitorAI: Similar to Character AI but allows explicit content. However, you must bring your own API keys from OpenAI or KoboldAI
- Chub Venus: Website similar to JanitorAI that is run by 4chan anons
- Kajiwoto: an AI chatbot platform that is more focused on the chat aspect (e.g. chatrooms, Discord bots, etc)
- ChatFAI
- Chai
- Faraday: a desktop app that runs a local model to roleplay with characters
Companion-focused Chatbots
These kinds of chatbots are centered around creating a personalized AI for the user.
- Replika: an App that is specifically designed to be an AI companion. May have similar restrictions to Character AI
- Nomi
- Nastia
- Paradot
General Chatbots
These chatbots aren't designed to mimick personalities, but with enough prompting, you can get them to roleplay with you.
- ChatGPT
- Bing Chat
- Poe: A platform where you can try various LLMs, like ChatGPT, Claude, and PaLM
- Pi A chatbot by Inflection AI that has a more therapeutic purpose compared to other generalized chatbots
Repositories
Repositories are files hosted on Github. They can come in many forms, as long as it's code.
- SillyTavern: An LLM frontend that can emulate any kind of character, as long as you bring your own API
- agent_with_memory: An AI Agent that combines GPT and Langchain
