Movie about a vampire who kills a woman's father to marry her, late 2000s or early 2010s.

This has been a movie that has been on my mind that I can't seem to recall the name of. I've been trying to search certain details, and I'm unsure if my troubles are because of the search engines I'm using (I refuse to use Google), or if it's because it's genuinely that much of a pain to find this film.

From what I remember about the movie, a vampire man catches his eyes on a young woman. Since the film is set in the past, the vampire asks her father for permission to marry her, to which the father responds that he wants his daughter to marry a hard-working man who'd support her, and that the vampire's hands are the softest hands he's ever felt in his life.

The vampire is not pleased with this, and if I remember correctly, kills the father while he's alone. With the father out of the way, he and the woman marry, and move to a property atop a hill. While I can't recall much of what happens afterwards, I do remember the woman finds out about her husband being a vampire, and a lot of paranormal stuff happening with the house and it's property, such as the snow outside turning a blood red. By the end of the movie, the vampire dies, and that's the last I remember happening.

If anybody knows of this film, I'd love to know the name of it. Might give it another watch after all these years and see if it's any good or not.

Old foreign myth (not roman/greek), with a god with invincibility being killed

I read it during the 80 in a book about various myth from around the world. It was not fiction, all other myths were well-known if obscure (like the Maori creation myth of new Zealand by the demigod Maui) For years now, I tried to find what culture , and what religion this was about without finding. ChatGPT never heard of this story. Here is the story as I recall it:

  • A child is born from a burning stone (may be cause it came from the sky)
  • A God ( could be his mother or father) hold the burning child with tongs
  • The child is then placed in a vial containing a liquid granting invincibility
  • As the tong hold the child, his hips did not touch the liquid, thus are is weak spot
  • A evil man/god try to kill the child by throwing wheel at him from a mountain
  • the child (grown up now) block a wheel with his head, then back, but die when he block it with his hip

Did anyone heard about this myth?

Looking for a cartoon where a girl finds a flower that goes though a bizarre life cycle right before her eyes

The show I want to know is a animated cartoon with a cell shaded style. If I recall correctly, it was 2D animated using computer drawing (similar to the store of something like Infinity Train)

I think I found the clip from a Lemmy post several months back. The scene has been stuck in my head for a while. I described the scene to my friend and they were really intrigued. I would like to find the show, so I can show them the scene properly.

If I had to guess, I would say the show is something from cartoon Network, or possibly a pilot episode.

In the scene, a girl is walking through a dense forest of grey cylinders. They bend in multiple directions and divide or end randomly. If I recall correctly, she had short curly hair, and maybe a hat

The girl discovers a weird flower sort of thing. When she activated the flower, a bizarre set of events unfold on top of the flower. I can't recall the exact sequence of events, but they are something along the following:

  • A little creature awakens at the center of the flower. I think there was a little sprout sticking out of the flower beforehand?

  • At some point, a number of small white orbs around the perimeter of the flower activate. They move around the flower and do some things

  • I think the creature died (or maybe went into hibernation)

  • The flower ends up right where it started as a weird story of life cycle.

After she is done looking at the flower, she leaves the cylinder forest and finds her partner that she was walking with. The cylinders all grow longer, thus closing off the forest from being entered again.

I am looking for a website/blog that criticize AI and provide commentary on the AI news.

It was kind of famous on Mastodon and had 2 authors. The website work on donations and had a phrase on the header.

I think the latest post I read from it was about researchers papers and research being sold to train AI, without the authors consent.

Does anyone recognize it?

Edit: it was pivot to AI.

Looking for a Flash game

It was a 2D platformer, made sometime in the 2010s.

The main character was a penguin, who used an orange sword and a blue cybernetic boomerang as weapons.

In the description, the game was called "retro" or "retro-styled", and it looked like a cross between Mega Man X and Final Ninja Zero by Nitrome.

! !

The game I'm looking for was probably not made by Nitrome.

The first level/tutorial was called "Like You Just Woke Up".

Funny clip of restaurant staff covering porn on tv with pillows

It was on Reddit a few years ago. Someone casted porn to a tv and the staff was desperately trying to cover it up. Sorry if no NSFW is allowed here. I don't know how to tag NSFW.

Looking for a movie title

I am looking for a movie, late 90s to late aughts. What I remember is a press junket for a fictional movie in some hotel and the chaos around it. One specific thing I remember is the director in the movie buying the Unabomber's shack to complete the movie.

{TV series or movie unsure] two characters act out scene from Empire Strikes Back for young children

I think I saw this in a youtube video taken out of context so I'm not exactly sure when it was made, or if it was a TV show or a movie. And while it could obviously be from any time after 1980 because it references Empire Strikes Back it felt 21st century to me.

It seems to be a future post-apocalyptic setting, the power isn't on, everyone's dressed in rags, there's scavenging etc. and in a moment of down time two of the main characters act out the lightsaber duel from Empire Strikes Back to entertain the young children who live there, and the kids gasp at the "I am your father" bit.

What's this from?

VR RPG

Game is Journey of the Gods, for anyone else looking!

I only remember the first big fight; you had a crossbow and sword, and were fighting a tentacle thing made of black ooze on a farm. The game overall was about becoming a god, with the gods being birds and you collecting feathers to ascend.

I originally played it on the Oculus Quest.

What is this forum type/ template called?

No particular reason for asking, but I'm about curious the name of this forum template I've been seeing a lot lately (saw it around six months ago the first time). It's basically a linear forum template where there is a timeline on the right side of the site. You can interact with it. 'Template' is probably not the right word, but you get the idea.

Examples: Logseq's forum uses it and so does Anki's forum.

Show where guy in college calls home asking for a photo of his car's hood

The guy tries to surprise his family by asking for a photo of the car, then plans to pop out of a fake car seat. But the plan backfires when he gets stuck. The car has a toy car glued to the hood. The request was something like "the guys don't believe I glued a toy car on the hood, can you send a pic of it" or something.

The show has mystery elements, and the episode starts with the premise that the guy is missing. I forget how popular of a show it is.

Reno 911! episode where they stop chasing a (naked?) man as soon as he crosses out of their jurisdiction.

I seem to remember this was a Reno 911! episode but my YouTube searching hasn't been able to find the episode/clip.

I think they were chasing a naked man but none of the cops wanted to touch him for obvious reasons. They made a half-hearted attempt to cuff/capture him but as soon as he crossed out of their jurisdiction (county line or something) they throw their hands up because that's not their job anymore.

A scifi movie/miniseries or episode inspired by Childhood's End

I don't remember a lot of details but I remember the human race ends up allying itself with a seemingly friendly alien race that agrees to give humanity advanced medicine and technology, but with the goal of slowly wiping out humanity through slowly making the species sterile. It follows a couple that is trying to conceive but has so far been unable to and the overlords keep reassuring them thR everything is fine just keep trying but the woman does digging and figures out what is happening but it's already too late. I think there is a time travel story where humanity is prevented from either coming into contact with the aliens in the first place or is warned away from making the deal.

Thank you thank you, it's driving me crazy.

These guitar parts remind me of another song, I can't remember which one

There are some background guitar 'slides' (I think) starting at 3:28 in this song, they sound a lot like another song, I can't put my finger on.

I'm thinking 90s alternative rock, maybe?

cross-posted from: https://infosec.pub/post/3191556

> Hi! I'm hoping someone can help me out. I'm trying to find a show I streamed a while ago. Here's what I remember: > > - It was a British show > - Two guys were roommates; I think the apartment was messy > - They had a woman friend > - One of the roommates and the friend were in love but they kept having bad timing > - I think the other friend was a manager at a company? > - I think the woman had to move in with them at some point? > - There was a guy named Jono (sp?) who kept saying, "I'm Jono"

What is the automatic recognition of quantities without having to count called?

When you look at a picture of three marbles, you donโ€™t have to count them to know that there are three there, your brain just automatically knows that, but you have to count to see whether there are 17 or 18. I remember reading about a study of this for various animals. If I recall correctly, humans can typically recognize 4-5, but can train up to 7 or 8, but crows or possibly an insect have a really high quantity that they can just sense.
