I was delighted to find this clip from an appearance on Conan O’Brien in 2006. I was lucky enough to be in New York at the right time to go to one of the shows that Conan mentioned in the intro. It was a really good show!
Conan mentioned that this song was from the album Rabbit Fur Coat that’s they were on tour for, however, it was actually on the follow up, Acid Tongue (2008). Both are good albums.
When checking this, I discovered that Paz Lenchantin played on See Fernando and several other tracks on Acid Tongue. Paz was later recruited to play bass in The Pixies.

I was in the habit of listening to CBC Radio 3’s rather good podcast that showcased Canadian music. Malajube were one of the only Francophone artists that I remember. I think that their earlier tune ‘Le Robot Sexy’ (2003) was the first song of theirs I noticed.
’Montreal -40°C’ is from their album Trompe L’Oeil.

PS -the podcast ended and I never found a suitable replacement, so if you know a similar podcast for new Canadian bands, it would be nice to know.
Varsity Drag - Summertime

After I posted Lemonhead's version of Luka, I wondered whether Ben Deily had made any more music after leaving the band. It turns out that he pursued a career as an advertising copywriter, but did indeed have a band called Varsity Drag.
This track is from 2006 album, For Crying Out Loud. Here is a live version that was filmed in Germany in 2007. Have quite enjoyed the tunes from this band that I have listened to.

Jarvis Cocker - Running the World

Contains swears, which French TV didn't seem to mind.
This song AKA '(Cunts Are Still) Running The World', was included as a "secret" track on CD and as a bonus 7" with the vinyl LP version of The Jarvis Cocker Record.
A few years ago, there was a push to get this to Christmas #1 in the UK.

Edinburgh's Aberfeldy (which is also a place in Scotland) made some delightful chamber pop records in the 2000s. They bear a resemblance to other Scottish bands like Belle and Sebastian, and Camera Obscura. You may also have heard their music in a Diet Coke TV commercial.

From the 2006 self-titled debut album from this UK based, Australian band. Some similarities here to Glasgow band, Sons and Daughters, IMO. I liked this album.
