I stated using Jerboa*, which feels a little similar in spirit. Had to jump trough some hoops though, as your login server needs at least version 0.18 to work.
If you're on android: I'd recommend checking out Summit for Lemmy. The layout reminds me of RIF!
Try to participate. Let's build a community. This "mass exodus" from reddit is different than previous ones. A majority of power users that made Reddit what it was have either quit or are now on the fediverse.
used RIF for 7 years, tried using the official app but RIF was just so much better. when i uninstalled it two weeks out of protest, it really felt like i had to say goodbye to an old friend. i do enjoy lemmy, but...
We’ve been here before. Some of us old fucks have gone from BBS to IRC to sites like SA, GenMay, Digg, Reddit. It’s jus the nature of the beast.
Gonna miss the solid App support Reddit had but it’s only a matter of time before there are many great options for Lenny. Wefwef while browser based is actually really nice!
The creator said he's moving to another platform centered around discussion mostly (no posts I think). I forget the name of it but he put a link in the goodbye message
There's a reflection instance called lemmit.online that copy posts from subreddits. I'm using it to keep up with a few subreddits while I'm on holiday. When I get home I'll setup communities on lemmy for them.
I know everyone has made the switch, but the ReVanced team have stolen the API keys out of the real Reddit app and have made patchers available for multiple Reddit apps including RiF.
I'm in the same boat, but thought I'd let people know just in case. My app of choice RelayForReddit is switching to a subscription model but 70% of my Reddit use was NSFW subs so not really worth it for me
I didn't try the process myself, last I heard they were using keys extracted from the official Reddit app. Maybe they thought that was a bad idea, and went a different route. Sorry, was just going by what I heard previously
RIF was Reddit to me. The official app and even the desktop site are so foreign and convoluted that they don't even register as being the same website.
Yeah apparently Reddit pulled the plug early and with no warning to Christian. Seems like they’re really determined to be a full bag of dicks to the end
Don't think they told anyone about doing it early yesterday. They had been saying July 1st the whole time then BaconReader went down along with RIF, Apollo, etc yesterday June 30th. One last fuck you to all the devs that actually helped grow that site.
Me too! Even though I knew it was coming, getting the notification that sync for reddit was no longer was like a kick in the teeth. Glad the dev is redirecting users here.
I'm delaying the inevitable with the patches that revanced dropped but it will never get another update and it will one day become unusable. I will miss it fully when it does.
I appreciate the sentiment but Lemmy still has a way to go until it can completely replace reddit. I believe it has its use but Lemmy for now is still niche.
In case no one mentioned it yet, I heard about wefwef.app from another post and it's a really nice looking frontend for this site.
I've been using it for about day now but I like it better than the base website for sure.
Some people say it's like Apollo but I wouldn't know since I used relayforReddit.
It stopped working for me after midnight and they put a banner explaining it in the bottom right. RIP to many good commutes browsing random info in my various subreddits.
Its still working for me here Jul 1, but I can imagine only having 12 hours left.
I'll be looking at properly deleting (or whatever, fully hiding) everything of my Reddit account, changing its email, and deleting it. If I must interact there, I may use a brief throwaway or two.
I was really sad to see it dead. I've been coming here more and more and I think I finally found an app that will replace it for Lemmy. I'm using wefwef and it's been much better than the other apps so far.
Infinity is still working for a lot of people it seems... just checked myself and even NSFW stuff loads fine? Not sure what's going on behind the scenes. I also haven't updated since the announcement
Gonna miss it. Almost 9 years on reddit, and RIF was the only way I viewed it. Aside from a VERY short lived look at the official shit app. Kinda excited for this new experience though.
