I'm sitting down to my breakfast of pepper with a bit of scrambled eggs on toast.
Are there any Te Reo or Mandarin speakers here?
I've been super hooked on ADV Podcasts and learning all about China, so now I have the urge to learn Mandarin.
I think I'll be having another downsize day where I try to declutter as much as I can, but it gets exponentially harder as I get closer to only having essentials.
Essentially you'll want to decide to go with Simplified or Traditional mandarin, Pinyin vs Zhuyin. Taiwan and HK use Traditional, you'll learn through Zhuyin, while China/SG/MY (and many others) use Simplified, learnt through Pinyin. Ignore dialects eg. Cantonese, Hokkien all that for now.
I know there are a few te reo learners around, not sure about fluent speakers. You can probably find Mandarin night classes pretty easily.
I think when learning a language, having a class that you attend with others can really help with motivation. I did a couple of years of (mostly) in person classes of te reo, and once they stopped it was a lot harder to keep the motivation to continue learning.
