I guess I should begin my time here with a classic: what's everyone's favorite Pokemon game(s)?
Mine is Pokemon HGSS (the amount of content is mindboggling), Pokemon Platinum (grandest Pokemon experience) and Pokemon Black 2/White 2 (most fun and unique playthrough). I'm also looking forward to buying Legends: Arceus on the Switch, have heard many great things about it!
Hey Pokemon Ruby is my first game too! Definitely my hook into Pokemon, though arguably Emerald has a lot more content, Ruby will always hold a special place in my heart
I agree! I'm actually in the process of selling all my old Nintendo games, and each Pokémon game fetches a pretty penny. The only game I haven't put up for sale is Ruby, simply because of the sentimental value it has. Also it still has my save on it, with hundreds of hours :')
Generations 1-5. I have wonderful memories with each. Starting with Gen 6, I found the art style unbearable, and even if the stories / gameplay were perfect (they weren’t), I found them too divergent from “core” to overcome.
Areceus was nice because I didn’t go into it as a mainline entry; it was like playing Stadium for the first time.
I’d really like Nintendo to release Emerald, HGSS, Platinum, and BW/BW2 on Switch, as I’d happily pay. My gut tells me they don’t so as to avoid cannibalizing the new titles, but I feel like most buyers are only really engaged in one or the other.
Haha yeah, Pokemon story really leaves much to be desired since the 3D era. I'm really excited for Arceus though! Definitely the best game on Switch right now, or arguably until those re-releases inhaling copium probably on the Switch 2 maybe? :')
Ultra Sun/Ultra Moon, because it has the most available Pokemon (no Dexit). It has Mega Evolutions and Z-Moves. It has a fun Battle Tree and good breeding mechanics. For what I like to do in Pokemon post-game (breeding competitive for battle facilities), it offers the best selection.
For running through the game itself, probably HGSS (big fan of gen 2 since I started with Silver) or Black/White.
Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire always stick out to me. I've always loved Gen 3, and these games combine the nostalgia with the new systems so seamlessly for me.
Yeah same here. I grew up playing Ruby on an old non-backlit GBASP. Those good old days where i had to hang against thevwindow in the car, playing by only the flashes of the street lights. Having that back in modern technology and some modern tweaks (like XP-share no longer being an item that can be knocked-off and lost forever) and with 3D graphics is great.
Soul Silver is second for me simply for allowing me to have my pokémon walk behind me.
My all time favorite is Pokémon Emerald, but I also really like the ORAS remakes for the newer pokémon, updated move sets, and EV training. Legends: Arceus is one of the few modern games I really liked. Finishing the Pokédex in that game is really fun.
omg definitely the ORAS remakes!! How could I forget them, best plotlines arguably! I just love how villains in those games have their own redemption arcs
Yeah :( scarlet violet seem to be really close to being a great Pokemon games, but I just saw how many bugs they have and noped the F out 😂 probably would have bought them if not for the twisting heads @@
I love the concept of Scarlet/Violet because I hate how linear all the other games are. The bugs and frame drops made me hesitant to buy one, but recently I found a physical copy for $43 on Amazon so I decided to buy it. Just waiting for it to be delivered now...
Right now, it's scarlet and violet. Before that, it was legends Arceus. Before that, is was Sword and Shield. Before that, it was Sun/Moon. Before that it was X/Y. Before that...
hgss was my first proper pokemon experience and still holds up to this day, but i absolutely love the storyline and self-contained nature of black and white. audino is one of my absolute favourite pokemon and i remember teaching it a ton of OP moves (Hyperbeam, blizzard, etc) on my first playthrough
I agree! The amount of gym battles was a HUGE selling point for me, though it's funny how Misty had lvl50 pokemons in HGSS while in FRLG she was rocking lvl20 max 😂
Honestly I'd probably have to say either USUM or BDSP. Their post-games were enjoyable for me. SV are too unpolished to make me want to keep playing it.
This has always been a difficult question for me. The newer games have so many quality of life additions that I find it harder to go back to the older titles... but then, the older titles tend to be more polished and have more "charm" to them.
I also mostly play in the post-game, not replaying the story.
