Not gonna lie, with a 6 month old at home and no AC, this wildfire smoke is kind of an actual fucking emergency. Today completely broke my wife and I. No AC or even cracking the windows on a hot day, and no outside time for the kiddo, who gets easily bored and has catatonic meltdowns. Fuck me man. Its so fucking depressing to think that this might actually be the tamest wildfire season of the kiddos life. Just fucking gutted TBH.
What part of the country are you in? I'm in Vancouver and got my first whiffs of smoke today. In past summers we've used ice packs to stay sane. Just keep rotating ice packs through the freezer and keep them on your lower back, or neck, or even on top of your head. Just not directly against the skin so you don't get frostbite.
Oh man, that sounds brutal. Grew up in a house with no A/C, so I have a couple tips that might make it a little more bearable.
Fans don’t technically make anything colder, but the air circulation at least feels nice. Flicking some water in front of the fan feels extra good. Frozen treats like popsicles are a godsend, though you’d obviously want to do homemade ones for the kiddo.
