This area is naturally pretty swampy, but with the rain we got over the weekend the water level was a bit higher than normal. The high waters meant a large portion of the trail was impassable. Normally the trail continues through the middle of this picture, but for today I just set up a hammock at the edge of the water and took in the view for a while.
This is in South Carolina, not far from Congaree National Park. Mosquitos aren't too big of an issue, but they're definitely around. The majority of the water in this area is still moving, albeit very slowly. It's enough to prevent mosquitos from laying eggs. However, once the area dries up a bit more and water level starts going down, this will turn into big pockets of stagnant water. That's when you'll start to see more bugs. That typically happens later in the summer though, this time of year there's enough rain to keep that from happening.
