Recommendations for PAL Gamecube Adapters

Hey hey blobcat, wavemelt,

I'm looking for a PAL Gamecube Adapter to HDMI or VGA. I have a GC with only an analog av out at the back and the hi speed port and serial port at the bottom. I ordered this HDMI adapter from Kaico (amazon link) but the image was unbearbly oversaturated. From the surface level reading I did I'm assuming its because of PAL (also the switch on it didnt work but idk if thats relevant). So i started skimming some articles and clicked through two youtube videos and got the impression that this is kind of a rabbit hole. While I'm generally interested in learning about modding it, I have too many other side-projects atm but still wanted to play with friends soonish.

Do people have recommendations for adapters that are basically just plug and play and dont cost too much? (idk if its realistic but i would be happy to keep my budget between 30 and 50 euros ) I'd also be happy if people can point me to a bit more concise sources and overviews so I can get an idea of what I should go with :)

edit: sorry i forgot to put this here: i thought the HD Link might be a good fit but was unsure about it being intended for the snes although i think that that uses the same port type

  • Rabbit hole is absolutely right. An expensive one at that. With my PAL GC I use an OSSC which I've had for 4 or 5 years. It's a bit long in the tooth now, as well as being expensive. If you can find a one, a RetroTink 2x is probably the best bang for buck. There is also the GBS Control - very much another rabbit hole. AFAIK anything else is going to be no better than the analogue input of your TV.

    • omg sorry but is it possible im being an idiot? like my troubles started when i didnt find my old cable anymore. the proper cable should go to composite which i should be able to plug into a vga (or hdmi?) adapter and then get a decentish image right? because that would be in my budget range. and thank you for the references! OSSC and RetroTink are a bit too expensive for me but maybe ill check out the GBS Control if it makes sense for me
