I wasn't wow'd at first, thinking I'd prefer JD or even Yam over him. If PG depth goes White -> Payton -> Banton then I like the idea of him as a guard that comes in and just holds the line. Reminds me of the role that Wanamaker had.
I don't love Payton as the backup PG, but we'll see how it goes.

I agree about PP as backup PG. White->PP->Banton is an average rotation at best, but it may mean that Brad sees Brogdon also playing a PG-like role with 2 wings + 2 bigs, so there's a bit more wiggle room here.
