GNOME search can't calculate stuff. krunner on KDE is increadibly powerful. Is there anything I can do to make GNOME's search a bit more like krunner? at least do basic math ...

Gnome has search providers and if you have Gnome Calculator installed searching any calculation will provide an answer next to gnome calculator in the result.
I've got it installed. Maybe a flatpak issue?
probably, why didn't you install it through the package manager?
