While in Ukraine a war is being fought that is also one of religion, between Christians, without any peace agreement in sight, an unexpected meeting of minds was reached on June 7 in Alexandria, Egypt, with the publication of a joint document between the Catholic Church and the Orthodox Churches – but without the signature of the Moscow Patriarchate – on the two issues that have most divided them for at least a millennium, as well as having to do with the ongoing war: synodality and primacy.
The primacy is not only that theorized and exercised by the pope of Rome, but is also that of the ecumenical patriarch of Constantinople over the other Orthodox Churches, including the patriarchate of Moscow.
It is no surprise Moscow is rejecting the rightful authority of her mother Church. After all, that's how she was born. She explicitly rejected the Council of Florence and then declared herself independent and worked to aid the Moslems in conquering Constantinople to increase her own relative standing. For Moscow it is nothing but greed and power, never humbling herself to the rightful authority Jesus placed over her.
