I think this episode essentially confirms some theories.

Maru is Tokio's child.
The alternate story is set in the past.
The alternate story is NOT far in the past. Most likely 15 years ago since Maru is 15.
They're creating supermen and they know it.
The humans don't know those supermen will go berserk and transform into monsters.
The robots do.

Those robots, is it an AI? Or perhaps an Alien lifeform linked to machines?

I haven’t been looking at any theories so far so realizing the alternate story is in the past took me off guard. It certainly seems that Maru is Tokio’s son and the person that looks like him that he’s supposed to inject must be the twin that was shown.

Was the woman who was with Maru and had the gun and then died the same woman who was promoted to assistant director?
- I need to go back and check the earlier episode where they mention and show Marus caretaker, but for some reason my mind was associating her with the girl (black hair) at the end saying that she was worried about the implications of the test and something felt off to her about it.
