TIL about the Nicobar pigeon. It is the closest living relative to the dodo.

Apparently, the dodo was not according to the reports of sailors. On the other hand, people used to eat a huge number of doves in the middle ages, to the point that they built towers called dovecotes to keep them in. So who knows?
