I disagree. They should be cared for until they can walk...they are of no use in the mines before that.
Crawling is actually pretty useful in small spaces
Sure, but what is the max weight a typical infant can pull? Maybe they could be used as a canary.

How about this, multiple toddler wheels powering the air vents
It's more than you might think. Have you ever let an infant pull your hair?
Duct tape some shovels on those arms those are wasted movements.
