Today we’re announcing changes to give families even more ways to use and enjoy Meta Quest. Starting later this year, parents will be able to set up parent-managed Meta accounts for Meta Quest 2 and 3 for their children ages 10 – 12.
Clearly there has been a huge issue with massive numbers of kids using multiplayer apps and causing all kinds of issues. I've wondered for ages why Meta doesn't address it and am starting to think perhaps they are in a legal catch-22: acting to restrict what kids do would acknowledge there are significant numbers doing it, which would in turn get them into legal trouble. So before they can meaningfully act to restrict children they have to first create the legal path for them to use the system.
At least I hope this is what's happening and it will mean in turn that we won't have so many squeakers shouting racist taunts in multiplayer apps any more.
I never understood why people compain so much about kids in multiplayer. Just use them as easy target practice and be done with it.
Until I played multiplayer games in VR with mandatory voice chat and was dumped straight into a horde of screaming kids shouting racist nonsense into their mikes.
Now I understand and really wish for some kind of adults-only option in games.
Until then I'll stick with playing with friends only.
