all time will do is dessicate it through evaporation leaving a hardened substance with enough aroma to attract insects and other carrion eating things
And once the insects have finished eating the substance, there will be nothing remaining.
Except for the insects
Why would they stay after they've eaten all of the thing?
Looking for more food, built a nest nearby, died from eating whatever it was
