@lemmyworld oh fun! I can post to Lemmy.world from a random Mastodon account without having an account on lemmy.world. Despite the fact that it appears they mandate I have an account to comment (and presumably post). Let's see if this post reply works...
Don't mind me, just want to check if my random self hosted instance works with Mastodon too
This really is pretty incredible. It's a little rough around the edges now, but with Lemmy gaining popularity fast, I can't wait to see how much it improves :)
@ubergeek77 You got it! I'm honestly a little lost as I'm just wilding @'ing things and seeing what happens. Feels like I should have been tracking this a bit better and turn it into a blog post or something. Let me know what replying to this does on your server.
Just looks like a normal comment reply to me! Only thing to note, it looks like everyone on Mastodon always prepends their Lemmy comments with @<user> before the body of the comment.
Unfortunately, we on Lemmy can't really "see" Mastodon content yet, we can only reply to you if you reply first. But hopefully that changes soon enough!
@sass@lemmyworld@infosecpub@[email protected] omg now I'm real confused 🤣. I can post to Lemmy instances from mastodon and randomly @ other Lemmy instances which will in turn create posts there too. @'ing my Mastodon handle works and then I can reply to that post.
It looks like a Lemmy user @joyjoy had no problem replying to my Mastodon-originated post so it would seem that strange issue may be isolated to infosec.pub.
