Data being lost?

It seems lemm.ee is missing data that is available in other instances like lemmy.world. Even posts and comments made on lemm.ee itself.

For example, compare the profiles of @[email protected] on both sites. You'll notice that on lemmy.world there are more comments more recently.

Edit: as soon as I posted this the data seems to have synced back up again.

  • Here's a similar situation that still isn't fully resolved.

I replied initially with a reply from my Mastodon account.... After a day or so it never appeared so I posted again. The person I'm replying to said he sees both posts (on vlemmy) while I still only see the post I made directly to lemm.ee and not the one from my mastodon account at opencoaster.net

    • Just realized the OP was older.... Just wanted to tag you, @[email protected] to make sure you saw these other comments. No rush, just don't want it to get buried :)

      • Hey! I believe there must have been some connection issue when that comment was being sent out. I have searched for the comment URL (https://opencoaster.net/@RagingWolfBob/110645118273581059) in our lemm.ee search page, and that triggered a sync, so it's visible now.

In general 0.18.1 has improved federation reliability a lot, so issues like this will hopefully become less common as time goes by.

        • Awesome, thanks for the update. FWIW, it does seem like the federation to mastodon still needs some help. I mainly just play around with it out of curiosity so it's not a huge bearing on me but I notice that even as I follow the community on my Mastodon account I probably only see about half of the posts/comments. This could be some intentional automatic selection of posts that I'm unaware of and it could just be the instance that I'm on as well. Not at all concerned about it, just wanted to mention it.

As always, thanks for everything you do!
