Maybe itās because thereās less comments, but itās felt needlessly hostile. Even a small disagreement leads to this weird āwell youāre obviously a fucking idiot that has nothing worthwhile to sayā. I didnāt have that impression when I joined post API BS, but now that Iāve noticed it itās hard to ignore. A lot of people just reading what they want to read, and drawing conclusions that donāt relate to the immediate action.
Whenever a genuinely obnoxious post is upvoted multiple times, I always wonder how many of those upvotes are from the pathetic authorās alts, and how many are from people who are just fellow assholes.
Thatās unfortunate, because itās the opposite of my experience. Maybe I just donāt care, and/or Iāve gotten better at spotting the warning signs of trivial bullshit and then ignoring it.
The trolls feel like insecure outsiders who havenāt matured enough to āgetā Lemmy. Itās like they know they arenāt taken seriously, and want the imaginary clout they had on Reddit.
I get that, and I do my best not to feed the trolls, but it feels like theyāve been growing since I first joined. But just because I ignore it doesnāt mean I donāt notice it.
Iāve seen more sealioning than simple trolling. Sometimes, I canāt resist replying, because Iām not sure if theyāre genuinely seeing things differently, or just because their games annoy me.
