Can anyone recommend a hard scifi/fantasy book that explicitly uses maps/diagrams/other illustrations as part of its "hardness"?

Title, I basically want to see a book that would be like a technical book on science or engineering or naval strategy if it weren't fiction.

Jurassic Park has illustrations along the story that “explain” what chaos is. The book is significantly “harder” than the movie, I feel. Is this what you are looking for?
2 0 ReplyThanks for the suggestion, I have read jurassic park, though didn't like it for unrelated reasons
2 0 ReplyCan I ask you the reason? I really enjoyed it, but i read it in my teens and don’t remember much.
1 0 ReplyI don't really remember either, mostly just found it underwhelming and a waste of potential. Never watched the movies as a result.
