Excited to see people ready to take action, but just be careful. See the thread on this profile for more info: https://bsky.app/profile/ecmclaughlin.bsky.social (this user has set her account to logged in users only).
"Listen, for folks who don't know, I was a part of a small organizing team that led to a mass mobilization in 813 cities worldwide in 2019.
I am not talking out of my ass.
You should be VERY VERY VERY careful in this environment about sharing flyers for events that identify NO organizer"
There was also a mod thread on r/albuquerque about it.
I am sure there will be BOTH legit protests and shitty people using this for nefarious reasons. I'm still on the fence about whether to drive 2 hours to my local one or not. I've already signed up for other things through mobilize.us anyway.
i don't know if it is right or wrong. So, i simply highlighted this caution word because people should discuss it. Collectively we may find out who is organizing this and if it is legit or not.
I've never been involved in organizing protests. I've only attended a few, so I don't know anything about leading them. It seems like a serious warning, which made me worried and curious of what I might be missing. Sorry I can't help :/
If no one is taking credit for it on the flyer, it might be bait to get people to come out to a fake (& unlicensed) protest to get themselves arrested.
Edit: "unlicensed"...I meant there's no city permit obtained for the gathering. Many cities require such permits so they have a head's up for crowd control and first responder staffing. No permit would mean they declare it an illegal protest and that introduces potential arrests.
Sure... I don't wanna stop people going though. I just want people to consider what didn't even enter my mind as someone who is new to all this. Read up, and be willing to protect yourself if you go. But I DO support people protesting if this is legit.
