Faith-based has been another word for films with a religious emphasis for a long time now.
And pointing out that he's a Christian is par for the course on Christian websites, and relevant, since the film is religious, and readers may wonder why he's making one.
Not that it's been an obscure fact that he's Christian. He's ben very open about it.

"Faith-based" is Hollywood-speak for "this movie has a religious protagonist and pro-religion themes". The producers and organizations behind these types of movies usually parents Christians. A recent example of this type of movie is American Underdog.
These movies are different than "Christian films", which are created by Christian companies and usually have casts and crew that are almost entirely Christian. Something like The Forge would fit in this category.
Sounds boring
Almost all of them are. The Kendrick Brothers' movies used to be at least a lil interesting but once they got bought by Sony those movies got boring too.
I think Angel Studios is the only company making interesting Christian movies. Although I must say Nefarious was surprisingly good for a Christian film.
Yep, that's mostly what I meant. It's a meaningless adjective but since the source is a Christian outfit, they had to shoe horn it in.
