It's somewhat backwards, but I think all the criticism is counterproductive, as it just pushes Gareth to make more and more conseravtive choices. A manager with credit in the bank feels free to experiment and switch things around. If he had any sense, he'd be subbing Kane off at 60 minutes on the dot.
The Kane situation is really you're damned if you do and you're damned if you don't. If he subs or benches him and they don't perform people would be why did you not use him. If he doesn't perform then people will go well you got other options why have you not used them.
Maybe I'm simplifying it too much, but what would be the issue with sitting him and saying that he's the captain and he should bear some responsibility for their lackluster performances as well? He's clearly interfering with Jude/the other midfielders tactically.
