What sorts of things are you struggling with? What would you like to disucss? Comment below!
Welcome aboard to everyone on this server! Which pieces are you working on? What is your level of experience?
There are many different ways in which to approach learning the piano, and I've been reading a lot of books lately. One of the things I've grown to realize is that everyone approaches it differently. If you have the time for it, I would highly recommend reading the books by Gieseking, Seymour Bernstein, and Gyorgy Sandor.
There are many sub-skills involved in playing: technique, sight reading, ear training, and memory training. There are also a number of ways in which you could break up practice sessions: you could go with a few long sessions, or a large number of short bursts. Both tend to work for different people, and I'm as of yet undecided if there's a clear winner.

How do you approach learning sight reading?
Broadly speaking, there are a few ways I've heard accomplished sight readers approaching sight reading.
-
Sight read easy pieces and build up eventually. You will be able to see more patterns over time and it will just start to make sense.
-
Sight read difficult pieces slowly, and gradually push your sight reading up to the point you would like.
-
Sight read whatever strikes your fancy, and it just happens over time.
What has been your experience?

Welcome!
Hello everyone, and welcome to the Piano Discussion Forum!
The early days of the internet were filled with discussion forums. There were piano discussion forums which brought in all sorts of advanced pianists from all over. Eventually, those gave way to centralized platforms like Reddit and Facebook, which never seemed to capture the same energy and were beholden to corporate interests.
When starting out, I learned a lot from piano blogs, and online forums which had a ton of smart people with useful information. It's almost impossible to find that sort of community online anymore. I wanted to create a space which captured as much of the same energy as possible.
So, let's create the best piano discussion board of all time! Please subscribe :D
