- blog.ecosia.org Why am I not seeing Ecosia on Chrome anymore?
Ecosia might not look as expected, but you can still use your search bar as usual. We’re on it!
TLDR: For those of you using Chrome when opening a new tab you might not see the Ecosia startpage-your search bar should still work though.
I can't say anything about it since I use Firefox, but it should be fixed soon

Ecosia.org updates its Privacy Policy
Oof. Hate it when Microsoft/Google does stuff like this. Probably will stick with but still...
cross-posted from: https://kbin.social/m/[email protected]/t/490236 >> > > > > From September 2023, we will be gradually rolling out our new unique search offer. This will happen over several months and won’t apply to everyone at the same time. This means that when you search through Ecosia, we work with either Microsoft Bing or, with your consent, Google to provide you with search results and ads. In order to do this, we automatically collect data required by search partners to prevent bot attacks and ad fraud - which includes your IP address and search terms. > > > > > > > > For a growing number of users we can now provide Google results and advertisements. We will ask for your consent before doing this and if you do not agree, we will provide non-personalized results from Microsoft Bing. > > > > > > > > In order to provide non-personalized Microsoft Bing results and ads, we are contractually obliged to implement Microsoft Clarity to capture how you use and interact with our website through behavioral metrics, as well as sharing your IP address and search terms. Ecosia's total income per month/year since 2015
Credit goes to Reddit user /u/Pamplemousse___ for the graph
It does seem like Ecosia's profits vary a bit sometimes, but I guess that's just natural in the advertising business; I've heard the same thing about Youtube AdSense.

Inaugural Post
Welcome to the /c/Ecosia community! I wanted to create this as one of the big things I was missing from Reddit was the Ecosia subreddit, and Mander's focus on science felt like the perfect match! I don't really have a ton of stuff to say, just I hope you like/come to like Ecosia, and that this can be an educational and useful space!
