When an artist posts a non-offensive artwork, or creates promotional posts, it's not just me, I see it constantly that the vote sits at 0. All posts get an automatic +1 on posting by yourself, so someone, someone probably here, looks at a brand new post of an artist sharing their craft and downvotes.

Yes, karma doesn't matter here, but it's such a shitty thing to do, and if it's one of you here on crystals.rest, you're not welcome. I'm not saying you can't downvote things ever, but automatically downvoting someone on a small instance when all they are doing is sharing something just makes people feel like shit.

I see that same thing when I'm on r/gamedevclassified. So now I automatically upvote ALL posts there because artists NEED VISIBILITY

I wanted to create this little tread just to talk and share our favourite websites from that platform.

Okay so... sometimes i like to try draw pixel art when i have the idea and the will, but i want to try draw more often to improve myself. I know that the biggest suggestion is "draw/sketch everyday, even the smallest things but don't stop drawing" but, even if i tried, i end up to draw for 2/3 days (the time i need to finish a little drawing or a concept) and then come back after 2/3 weeks when i have again the will/idea and the energy to draw after work. So i wanted to ask you guys what is your advice to stop procastinate on doing art?

Hey! I'm not sure if anyone shares the same interest, but this is one of my favorite resources for horror/monster related art.

It's a blog that shares monsters illustrations from historical to retro and everything in between. The images are high res and include sources and credits.

The catalogue is massive and I've burned multiple afternoons over the years just browsing through them.

Supporting a protest of reddit is extremely important for the internet, I mean, I started my own lemmy instance! The ideas are important to me.

But like I, uh, need....money at times. I've been kinda down recently in terms of doing artwork, but I've hit a very productive groove and I've run out of commissions. The way my brain works, it has very high periods of output, with long periods of rest/hibernation. It's important that I use my periods of productivity to offset my mentally dead months, but like, lol I don't want to post on reddit. Most especially r/GameDevClassified, but that's so far been the easiest way to at least get some work.

I have actually been getting a good amount of clients from mastodon! That plus returning clients have been pretty good for most of this year, but July is typically where it's kinda of my make it or break it for the year. I don't think I know of anywhere else besides here on lemmy that allows direct self promotion.

I guess I'm a little late to the party, but apparently it's a fork of Misskey. I like the additional features so far. Especially the gallery and channels. I think I actually may try and migrate from Masto after playing with it a little more.

I've noticed that when attempting to post responses to threads in other servers, the Post button just kind of spins indefinitely.

I'm going to write this as the main post, and then make a comment, because that's the only way mastodon can read full text. (also unsure where I should post this, so here it goes)

I chose not to pre-populate the communities too much with a lot of discussion by myself before we got started because I didn't wanna feel...idk The One Man Nina Show. I didn't expect anyone to really show up yet! But you guys are taking initiative and that makes me happy. : )

Lemmy seems interesting but not mature enough.. at least the front end. It feels (to me) like its trying to be somewhere in between early 2000-2010 forums and reddit, which is a bit weird.. I'm not a big fan of the layout as its quite unintuitive, but the concept seems cool.
